My child will become a judicial apprentice and be granted a student loan for his/her living. Am I required to exclude him/her from my dependents? The loan amount is ¥250,000 per month and the loan is to be repaid in subsequent years.
To be qualified as a dependent in the health insurance system, the person must be living by primarily depending on the income of the insured person. If your child's living is financed by a student loan, the relationship with your child in terms of your support for his/her living will no longer exist, and so he/she will not meet the certification criteria for being a dependent. Accordingly, he/she must be excluded from your dependents.
